New pedestrian crossing in Station Road, Thurnby

A new road crossing is currently undergoing public consultation in Station Road, Thurnby. This crossing has been campaigned for by Lib Dem councillors as well as members of the public. The proposed crossing is the puffin type, which offers safety and traffic flow benefits over older designs. Sensors keep the traffic light on red if a pedestrian is taking longer than usual to cross, and if a pedestrian requests to cross and then changes their mind and walks off, the request will be cancelled to keep traffic flowing.

Support or objections can be raised with Leicestershire County Council before midnight on 30th July. We are hopeful that the consultation will be positive and work can soon begin. However, if residents have any comments on the plans, we encourage them to share their views.

Harborough District Community Awards

Lib Dem Councillors at Harborough District Council are among those encouraging residents to submit nominations for the annual community awards, to be held on 1st October.

Nominations are open until 18th August, and more information can be found on the HDC website: https://www.harborough.gov.uk/communityawards26

Flooding

We know that flooding has been a significant concern for many, especially in Great Glen, Broughton Astley, Market Harborough and other villages. We have employed a climate impact officer and are making funds available to support parishes with flood wardens and sandbags and we are establishing local flood action groups to agree priorities and actions to make a difference.
